What are common scams in India?
I recently went shopping with my friends in H&M, VR mall, Mumbai
I found a really cute top which was under the ₹399 tag, although the price tag had ₹1999 on it.
Like this:
Assuming it was under discount, I bought the top.
In the billing counter, the cashier did not clearly tell me the amount. I heard it as 2000 something. Or stupid me was just so happy that I didn't hear it clearly.
After I got the bill, I saw that it was a total of ₹4097. I was shocked and scared because I had only ₹5000 in my account for the whole month!
I went to them and showed them the bill. They told me that I probably made some mistake.
I took the employee to that section. There was a board with “tops” and “Rs. 399” written on it. (Refer to the picture) The employee told me that the top I took did not come under the “top” category.
I was angry and devastated. I only took the top because I thought it was okay for 400 bucks. But 2k was just ridiculous for that top.
After a while of negotiation, they agreed to refund the amount back to my account. I told them to take those tops out of the 399 section. To this they finally confessed that it's just to attract customers.
2k might not be a huge amount for people in that mall but for a student like me, it is a whole month's expense. I would pay 2k for a top that I would really like, but that top was not that good (in my opinion) but worthy enough to buy it for ₹399.
Also please please listen to the cashier well and don't be in a rush like me!

Edit: Thanks to Anwesha Basu for the editing.
Edit: People saying that's it's purely my fault, yes it is, but not fully. Not paying attention in the billing counter is my fault ,but labeling a 1999INR top as 399INR is their fault and deserves to be termed as a scam.
